The Prestatyn Sixth Form continues to flourish. Students are celebrating following the publication of the 2018 A-level results.

High aspirations and standards are having a marked impact on the great results our 6th formers have achieved. The A-level results for the class of 2018 have seen the overall pass rate rise for the second year running to 98% from 93% in 2016.

Glen Vernon, Head of Prestatyn High Sixth Form said,
“These results are significant for all concerned. The students and staff have worked extremely hard this year and I am delighted to see them rewarded”.

The vast majority of PHS students have achieved their potential and can now continue on to their University of choice or employment. This reflects real dedication, commitment and the support their teachers, families and friends.

Mr Foley, Headteacher was absolutely delighted with the improved results and said
“Once again our students have performed at the highest level and achieved results that are truly outstanding. We expect the highest of standards from all students and staff so that all learners achieve their potential and yet again, our students have surpassed our expectations. They are a credit to the school, their families but most of all to themselves. They have done the hard work and now can go on and achieve their dreams. Well done to the class of 2018”.

Jean Emporium based in Rhyl open a pop-up shop at Prestatyn High School.
Parents will be able to browse the new school uniform, and pupils can try the new school blazers for size.

The Jean Emporium pop-up shop will be open: Mon 16th – Thurs 19th July 3-5pm and is located off the main foyer area at Prestatyn High school.

‘Jean Emporium’ are one of the official suppliers of the new Prestatyn High School uniform.

Nadeem Ahmad, owner and manager of the shop, said:
“We are delighted to be able to offer this service to the parents of Prestatyn High school. So far we’ve had lots of people browsing and making purchases of the new uniform in our shop and we just wanted to make the process of buying a new school uniform simple, and accessible”.

How does the new uniform look?

If you joined the 1-1 scheme on or after September 2015 your service contract agreement for support will be coming to an end in September 2018.

What does this mean?
This means that ownership of the device has been transferred to you and it is your responsibility, not the school’s, to maintain your tablet.

What about damages and repairs?
Although your service contract has ended, we will still aim to offer limited repairs at PHS, where possible, to help with the upkeep of your tablet until you leave school. Other than re-images, these repairs will be chargeable.

We are fast approaching the end of the summer term. This year the school will be closing early at 12.20 on Friday 20th July. This is an opportunity to reward our students for all their hard work. However, I am keen to stress that I do not expect to see a dip in attendance just because it is a shortened day. Students are expected to attend school and attend lessons as normal. The school has made all the necessary arrangements for school buses/taxis to be at school early to transport pupils home.

End of term early finish

The traditional end of year school Record of Achievement award ceremony welcomed two world class extreme sports athletes, ex-European and British skateboard champion, Neil Danns, and Downhill Mountain Biking World Champion Rachel Atherton.

Leah Royles and Erin Kenway both delivered stunning vocal performances, whilst pianist Alice Wright played a beautiful solo piece. The school staff played and sang their own rendition of the Manchester Britpop anthem ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ by Oasis.

Tejilen Chellapemal proud winner of the Headteachers Award

The Headteacher’s Award was presented to Tejilen Chellapemal.
He has shown true resilience, despite facing personal challenges. He has never given up and has shown true grit and determination. He is a keen sportsperson and can always be found down in PE supporting the 5 x 60 officer. Such is his dedication to all things PE, he was made a 5 x 60 ambassador. During his time at PHS, he has thrown himself into all aspects of school life. He has been a Year 10 buddy, has represented his house during sports day and, even to this day, is still coming back to school to support classes. You would struggle to find a more polite, well-mannered and courteous individual. When staff were asked to consider who should be awarded this award. the response was unanimous.

2018 House winners included: Jupiter – Jack Hughes, Saturn x – Elle Harris, Saturn y – Rebecca Fell-Crook, Mercury x – Amy-Rose Wynne, Mercury y – Bethany Armstrong, Neptune – Erin Kenway, Orion – Pipat Kunpanok, Venus – Elliott Humphries, Mars – George Lloyd, Pluto – Natasha Dore.

The PHS Sporting Achievement Award 2018 was awarded to Layna Beattie and presented by Mountain Bike World Champion, Rachel Atherton (@rachelatherton). Layna has represented Wales as an under 17 squash player. She has travelled around Europe during her exams, yet has successfully combined studying with sporting achievement. Layna has demonstrated commitment and a positive mental attitude.
She has been committed to both school and sport throughout the years.
